Jesse In China
March 07 In the News: Working for the Shenzhen Dailiy Sorry, I really don't update this site enough! For the past two months I have been working as the photographer for the Shenzhen Daily. For the most part, it has been a good experience. I've been able to travel around the city, taking pictures of interesting (and sometimes not so interesting) things. Although primarily a photographer, I have also been writing for the Travel and Culture pages, which is a new and challenging task. Here are some of the stories and pictures I am happy with: Pro skate team tours Shenzhen Photos bridge the gap between artists Travel story about Chaozhou Travel story about Meizhou Surfing in Xichong Stay tuned for more! September 25 A Few FavoritesHere are just a few of my favorite shots from this past summer in America. The first is downtown Cape Charles, the small town where I grew up. The natural lighting was perfect. The second one is a picture of my friend's dog looking at my Mac with a "vase" in front of him. The third is a panorama of the beach in Cape Charles. It was made by stitching many vertical images together. The fourth is my good friend Tina (and also my first girlfriend when I was 10! haha) It was a great summer, but I am glad to be back in Shenzhen again, my "home away from home". September 18 Shenzhen SmilesI've been back in Shenzhen for about a month now, and one thing I have
noticed is the sheer number of smiles in this city. It really makes
living here a joy for me, and makes each day that much better. I don't
know if its because of my big crazy hair, or the fact that I try my
best to speak Chinese, but its not hard to find a smile, or get a smile out of people on
the streets and in public. This is just one of the many reasons that I love Shenzhen. July 11 Independence DayHello! Xanga is blocked in China so I may start using Spaces more often. The 4th of July holiday has just passed. It was great - I spent the day selling my photographs of China at the festival on the beach-front in my hometown and then I took pictures of the fireworks for the local newspaper. There are a few below, and here is a gallery of images from the day. August 04 Home Sweet HomeRight now I am living on the Eastern Shore of Virginia - the place where I grew up as a kid. It is beautiful - and so much different from my other home in China. Its quiet and peaceful. There are beaches, farms, and forests. The people are friendly and few. Click here to take a look at life in my true home. I only have a few more weeks to enjoy it before I return to China for a third year... |
